We use Photo Genesis Skin Therapy to treat discolorations associated with sun damage, freckles, age spots, red and brown spots, rosacea, and certain types of birthmarks. We also combine Photo Genesis Skin Therapy with topical medication to treat acne.

How does it work?
Photo Genesis Skin Therapy uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). This visible light is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots and red areas on the skin. It is the rapid heating of these pigmented cells that causes the therapeutic effect.

What areas can be treated?
Virtually any part of the body with sun and age spots, uneven skin tone, or diffuse redness can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they have typically had the most sun exposure. Discrete brown spots, excessively ruddy complexion and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment.

What do the treatments feel like?
When the handpiece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief pinching sensation. No topical anesthetic or gel is required as Photo Genesis Skin Therapy is much more comfortable than other pulsed light technologies. If desired, however, we can apply a topical anesthetic free of charge.

How long will the treatment take?
The actual treatment may only take a few minutes.

How many treatments do I need?
Typically, 2 to 4 treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots, densely freckled areas, or excessive sun damage.

What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next 1 to 3 weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off and your mottled complexion will clear.

When will I see results?
Many patients see significant improvement within 2 to 3 weeks of treatment. Your complexion will be clearer and younger looking. Ultimate results, however, may not be apparent for a month or more.

Will the spots reappear over time?
Over time new spots may appear if there is sufficient sun exposure. These can also be removed if desired. Remember to liberally apply sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and excessive redness.

Why did we choose to offer Photo Genesis Skin Therapy?
We chose Photo Genesis Skin Therapy because we believe it is the best Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology in the market for treating pigmented spots and red areas in the skin.
